Thought of the Month

"It is our shared experience to have pain and suffering. Many of the great teaching that have come down to us are about this very fact, and about the tools we have been given to become free. Jocelyn's disappointment is because of her attachment to the results of actions and so she will continue, as we all do, to be trapped in the wheel of karma. Only by relinguishing the fruits of our actions can we free ourselves. How are we to do this? By sacrifice - sacrificing each of our actions to God, releasing all self-interest, all selfish desire. I am this, I am that, I want this, I want that, this is mine, that is mine...the list goes on. And so we remain prisoners to our desires and to the things that we have. We believe that we have things, but in reality they have us.

This may seem to be little consolation to someone who is ill, and perhaps dying. That is because it is being heard only on an intellectual level. When this becomes our truer vision, coming about through right thinking, right speech, and right effort, our vision changes and the possibility of equanimity arises.

It is of little consequence to share these thoughts with someone not prepared to understand. So we begin at a different point in the journey - diet & nutrition, herbs, exercise, hygiene, relaxation practice, meditation, yoga, purifying our thoughts, and so on through the various tools of kriya.

There is one other factor, a great unknown, and that is G-d's Will."

-by R' Rene

A thousand times I asked my guru, 'The name of the One who is known by No-thing', Tired and exhausted was I, asking time and again; Out of Nothing emerged Something, bewildering and great!

-Lalla

Meditation Tip

On Meditation

If a person's basic state of mind is serene and calm, then it is possible for this inner peace to overwhelm a painful physical experience. On the other hand, if someone is suffering from depression, anxiety, or any form of emotional distress, then even if he or she happens to be enjoying physical comforts, he will not really be able to experience the happiness that these could bring.

As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery... We have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace. The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger, attachment, fear, and suspicion, while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility are the source of peace and happiness.

The Fall Teen/Pre-teen Reiki Club
Starting Sunday, October 3rd, 2:00-3:00 pm.
bi-monthly

In today's world teens struggle to cope with academic achievement, peer acceptance, over-scheduling of extra-curricular activities, college placement exams, parental expectations, and pressure to make the right decisions.

This may bring about anxiety, sleep problems, depression, or low self esteem; which are early signs of unresolved stress.

The Teen/Pre-teen Reiki Club provides a warm and communicative environment guided by an experienced Reiki Master. In our gathering we'll learn how to balance the energy without digging into personal topics that are hard to discuss.

General topics of discussions will include:
*meaning and locations of the seven chakras in connection to emotional and physical health;
* basics of self healing work:
*breathing techniques;
* meditation and chanting;
* guided visualization on how to discover and sense "energy;"
*questions and answers.

Each gathering will be followed by guided meditation.

Beginning Sunday, October 3rd, 2:00-3:00 pm. Our club will meet on bi-monthly basis. Space is available for individuals or a small group. $15 per session. Pre-register by Sept.26. group facilitator: Angela Aim, Usui Reiki master teacher.
